A message from Burt and Judy Whiteman...

Thank you for visiting our website! We are an American couple originally from New York City, now living in upstate New York. We had taken many trips to Europe over the years, but it wasn't until 2005 that we traveled to Provence for the first time.

It was love at first sight when we visited the beautiful provencal village of Lourmarin—named one of the most beautiful in France—and decided we wanted to be part of the community, if only for a couple of months a year. Since we don't wish to give up our home in the US, we are happy to make our apartment available for others to enjoy when we're not there.

Le Petit Rêve, our Provence Vacation Rental apartment, is charming, comfortable and convenient. Numerous comments from past guests indicate they feel the same way!*

It's your opportunity to experience life in Provence for a while without sacrificing comfort or breaking the bank.

Le Petit Rêve is centrally located, wellequipped and a great base for exploring the countryside: there are dozens of picturesque neighboring villages, and it's a short drive to interesting cities like Aix en Provence, Arles and Avignon. It's also only an hour from Marseille Marignane airport, your gateway to Provence.

There's plenty to do right in town, too. You can start your day by taking a two-minute walk to the bakery for croissants or baguettes to bring home for breakfast, or perhaps opt to have your petit dejeuner at a local tea room or cafe so you can people-watch and eat at the same time.

Numerous boutiques and art galleries will keep you occupied, as well as a visit to the Chateau de Lourmarin, restored and open for tours and concerts. There are at least ten restaurants and tearooms as well as two grocery stores in town—all a short walk from Le Petit Rêve.

You can also take an easy stroll out of town to admire the vineyards, cherry orchards, and in spring, the poppy fields nearby. If you like to hike, we are right by the foothills of the Luberon mountain range, considered a world-class hiking area.

Try not to miss Lourmarin's Friday market, rated one of the best in our area. Not just foods of all kinds are sold; you will also find beautiful Provencal linens; jewelry; pottery; gift items; flowers; and home furnishings. There are usually olive oil and wine tastings as well, right behind our building. Use our market basket, so you can shop like a native. And if you're laden with treasures or groceries, you'll appreciate the elevator that will take you back upstairs!

But when you do decide to explore other towns and villages, we have a wealth of travel information to peruse in our apartment—and the Lourmarin Tourist Office is on the square right behind our building.

In November 2009, travel writers James Martin and Martha Bakerjian of About.com spent a week in Le Petit Reve. To read James' blog, “ A Week in Provence,” go to http://goeurope.about.com/b/2009/11/02/a-week-in-provence-day-one.htm.

Bob and Sue Winn's respected Guidebook to the Luberon Region of Provence lists Le Petit Rêve in its lodging section and has a wealth of real-world information about the area: http://provencebyways.com/byways.htm.

*In the past, guest reviews were stored on our site at the vacation portal VRBO.com. As we now rent by special invitation only, we've discontinued our VRBO account.  But we saved all our VRBO reviews to a PDF first, so you can still read them!  The PDF formatting isn't pretty, but enjoy our archived guest reviews.
